TV was very late arriving in South Africa, as the Government were worried about the effect it might have on the population as a whole.

One advantage of it's 'lateness' was that the Technology had had a chance to develop, and grow, and so S.A started with the very latest equipment, and colour, and a wealth of pre-recorded material from overseas to choose from.
Hal Orlandini and I had been working in Cabaret for several years by then, and we were chosen to make a couple of Pilot programmes to be transmitted during the 'testing' period, along with loads of travel and wildlife programmes !
