MEDICAL FILE

It was when I was at the Brooke Theatre that I realised several of the other players were doing Radio plays and Serials for the SABC during the daytime.

I soon discovered that getting into this field was easier said that done. But scripts and writers seemed to be thin on the ground. I listened to some of them, to pick up the format, and then wrote an Episode of "Medical File" myself vaguely based on a novel I'd read many years ago.

I took it along to one of the main commercial production houses. The boss was out, but the secretary said to leave the script, and she would make sure that he saw it when he returned. I could call in at the end of the afternoon if I liked.

Needless to say, I DID like......and was astounded, amazed, and then furious to hear that they had recorded my script that afternoon. The whole purpose of writing it was to get a foot in the door with acting in it ! However, after I had explained this, I found I DID have a foot in the door, and was called regularly after that.

Here is a clip from that first Episode......

DANGER MISSION

DANGER MISSION-1A.jpg

This was a 15 minute Daily serial, loosely based on the "Mission Impossible" Theme.

We recorded the "Pilot", had it accepted, and it ran for as long as I was in Africa !! Here is a clip......

SQUAD CARS

This was like water off a duck's back for me, as I had written a few Episodes of a popular BBC-TV series called Z CARS, along very similar lines.

Again, it was an extremely long running, and popular series. Here is a clip...

CABARET TIME

This was based on Hal and my Cabaret Act at the Iron Horse, and was just a  weekly program.

Hard work to write, but ran for about a year, before we became too busy with the advent of TV etc, and had to terminate it to concentrate on out TV shows.

ENGLISH SERVICE

It was after I had been reasonably successful with all these that I decided to submit some more serious one hour plays to the SABC ENGLISH Service.

I actually wrote many of these.

Here are a few reviews and clips:-
